Clean Water, Science and Stream Restoration

Water Quality Testing Program

Just getting started.  Partnering with Harpeth Conservancy to bring water quality testing to the Mill Creek.  Studies will provide up to date measurements of present pollutants and threats to Mill Creek water quality.  Studies will help support appropriate community care for our waterway.

Stream Bank Revitalization

Just getting started.  Several members of MCWA recently participated in a Stream Bank Restoration Project Through The Tennessee Environmental Council using natural revetments made of cedar and/or coconut husks and fibers to restore eroded stream banks.  We will work with TEN to bring this type of Green Infrastructure Restoration to eroded stream banks in the Mill Creek.

Dam Removal

The MCWA has participated in the removal of several old dams along the creek.  This included doing cray fish sweeps which collected and removed the crayfish prior to the dam removal.  These animals were moved to safe areas beyond the site of restoration.
